Four Canadian cities are among the top 35 most livable cities in the world, according to this year's Mercer quality of living survey.
Vancouver placed fifth, the best among Canadian cities. Ottawa and Toronto came in at 14 and 15, respectively. Montreal finished at 24 and Calgary 33.
European cities dominated the list, with Vienna coming out on top. Zurich finished third, while Auckland, New Zealand was forth. Germany's Munich and Dusseldorf rounded out the top five (Dusseldorf tied with Vancouver.)
Overall, Europe nabbed eight of the top 10 positions.
The top American city was Honolulu at 29. Britain's top city was London, placing in at 38.
At 25, Singapore was the top Asian city.
No Middle East or African country placed in the top 50. Dubai, at 74, was tops for those regions.
Mercer evaluates the 420 cities in the survey by looking at 39 different categories grouped under 10 categories;

- Socio-cultural environment
- Health and sanitation
- Schools and education
- Public services and transportation
- Recreation
- Consumer goods
- Housing
- Natural environment
